“Unfinished Music n° 1 – Two Virgins” è il primo album da solista di John Lennon, anche se fù poi attribuito a John Lennon & Yoko Ono. Il disco non ebbe un gran successo: in gran bretagna vendette solo 5000 copie, ma questo non ne fermò l’ascesa nell’olimpo delle pubblicazioni immortali. Più che per il contenuto (mix confuso di effetti sonori, urla, distorsioni e rumori estremamente sperimentali) destò scandalo la copertina che ritraeva John e Yoko completamente nudi, addirittura bissando il nudo integrale sul retro copertina, dove gli artisti mostrarono  il loro “lato b”. Per permettere la distribuzione dell’album John dovette accettare che la copertina fosse ricoperta da una sovracopertina in carta leggera marrone che mostrava solo i volti degli artisti e il titolo dell’album. Questa copertina farebbe gridare allo scandalo anche ai giorni nostri, figurarsi nel 1968…

L’album fu’ registrato la notte del 19 maggio del 1968, quando John trovò il coraggio di invitare a casa sua l’artista concettuale Yoko Ono, conosciuta due anni prima. Si racconta che dopo la registrazione fecero l’amore, dando inizio ad una storica e burrascosa storia d’amore che terminerà solo con la morte di Lennon. Gli altri membri dei Beatles erano contrari alla pubblicazione del disco, soprattutto per la scandalosa copertina. Nonostante le scarse vendite in Gran Bretagna, negli Stati Uniti il disco raggiunse un  sorprendente 124° posto. Molto ricercata dai collezionisti di tutto il mondo la versione in vinile con la “nude cover”. Fondamentale, per avere una copia completa, la delicata sovracopertina in carta leggera di color marrone, presente sia nelle edizioni inglesi che in quelle americane.

The record wasn’t a great success in the UK sold just 5000 copies, but this not stopped the rise in the Olympus of the immortal publications. More than the content (confused mix sound effects, screams and very experimental distorted sounds) to rais a scandal was the cover that showed John and Yoko  completely naked, even repeating the nude on the back cover, where the artists showed their “side b”. To allow the distribution of the album John had to accept that the cover was recovered with a jacket in light brown paper that showed only the faces of artists and the album title . This cover would kick up a fuss even today, let alone in 1968 …

The album was recorded in the night of May 19, 1968, when John found the courage to invite to his house the conceptual artist Yoko Ono, known two years ago. The story goes that after recording they made love, starting a historic and tumultuous love story that will end only with the death of Lennon. The other members of the Beatles were against the release of the album, especially for the outrageous cover. Despite the poor sales in Britain, in the United States the album reached an amazing 124° place. Essential for the collectors to have a complete copy of the paper jacket, occurring in both British and American editions.
